VBA Data Tab
- VBA18 / VBA19 / VBA20 / etc – Vertical Bat Angle for 2018,2019,2020, etc.
- VBAYchg – Year over year change in VBA for the most recent year end and the prior year end
- VBA_PMo – Vertical Bat Angle for the prior month or Current Month -1
- VBA_CMo – Vertical Bat Angle for the most recent month
- VBA_Mch j- Month over month change in Vertical Bat Angle for the latest two periods.
SG Scores Tab
- SG_Path – Percentile ranking of players based on several factors that correlate with quality of contact including but not limited to Launch Angle Consistency, VBA, Square Contact/Less Backspin, Attack Angle, etc.
- Since VBA is observed directly, one month of data is sufficient for a reliable value. However, with batted ball data, one month of data is not sufficient for many contact quality metrics. For the SG_Path Score, we use the three most recent months of batted ball data and our most recent month VBA value. If a player has VBA data for prior months in that three month window but not for the current month, we will use the most recent VBA in that three month window. Consequently, injured or non-active players may continue to show a score after they are no longer playing. However, on the SG_Scores historical spreadsheet (CSV Download), we have removed monthly scores if a player does not have batted balls in that particular month.
- Power – Percentile rank based on average exit velocity
- Plate – Percentile rank based on O-Swing rate in Fangraphs
- 3P Score – An average of Path | Power | Plate. Equal weighted to show the breadth of a hitter’s skillset
- ISOK – Isolated Strikeout Rate. Factors which contribute to contact quality and exit velocity also contribute to higher strikeout rates. This metric attempts to examine K rates after taking out the positive influence from a player’s power and contact quality.
- 3P_ISOK – A player’s gross 3P Score minus their ISOK
- BBE_Path – This is the number of batted ball events that are considered in the players SG_Path Score – typically over a rolling 3 month period
VEA Tab
- Vertical Entry Angle (VEA) – based on vertical bat angle approximately 83ms before contact
- Flatten – the amount of change between VEA and VBA at contact
